The GETA Advisory Board
GETA’s Advisory Council features leading experts in the field of psychotherapy and gender dysphoria. Advisory Council members represent a range of experience and training. The Advisory Council serves as a resource for the GETA board in planning programming and strategic directions.
Dr. Stephen Levine
Dr. Levine is Clinical Professor of Psychiatry at Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He is the solo author of six books, Sex Is Not Simple in 1989; Sexual Life: A clinician’s guide in 1992; Sexuality in Midlife in 1998 and Demystifying Love: Plain talk for the mental health professional in 2006; Barriers to Loving: A clinician’s perspective in 2013; Psychotherapeutic Approaches to Sexual Problems: An Essential Guide for Mental Health Professionals in 2020. He is the Senior Editor of the first (2003), second (2010) and third (2016) editions of the Handbook of Clinical Sexuality for Mental Health Professionals.
He has been teaching, providing clinical care, and writing throughout his career. He has generated original research, invited papers, commentaries, chapters, and book reviews. He is a frequent reviewer of manuscripts for numerous journals. His most recent paper, “Reconsidering Informed Consent for Transgender-Identified Children, Adolescents, and Young Adults” is among the top 5% of all downloaded scientific articles. It led to four invited commentaries. Dr Levine and his two co-authors wrote two responses to these commentaries. All these 2022 articles are published Open Access in the Journal of Sex & Marital Therapy.
Robert Withers
Bob Withers is a Jungian Analyst, writer and lecturer, who works at the Rock Clinic; a community based psychotherapy clinic in Brighton England which he co-founded in 1990.
Terry Patterson
UK based Psychodynamic counsellor, trainer and supervisor, background in HIV/AIDS helpline counselling and LGB youth support.
28 years experience working in university counselling, service management, teaching and supervising, now in private practice as a counsellor and supervisor with a specialist interest in the transitions between adolescence and adulthood.
